A French woman claims she is from one AI version of Brad Pitt was cheated out of $850,000. Interior designer Anne, 53, was contacted by a scammer posing as Brad Pitt’s mother Jane. And told the woman that Pitt needed kidney treatment.
“She told me her son needed someone like me,” Anne said on a Sunday episode of Seven to Eight on the French television channel TF1.
The scammer convinced the woman to send large sums of money to fund Pitt’s kidney treatment. To justify the Oscar winner’s lack of money, the scammer said Pitt could not do so due to his divorce from Angelina Jolie cannot access his bank accounts.
“At first I thought it was fake. That it’s ridiculous,” Anne continued. “But I’m not used to social media. And didn’t really understand what was happening to me.”
The scam is similar to the one that hit Johnny Depp fans. And earlier this month on social media warned that online scammers use his likeness to fans to attack. A Gizmodo report revealed that the Federal Trade Commission has received nearly 200 complaints about fake douchebags hungry for money.
Report to the police
The Pitt scammer sent the woman for over a year personalized, AI-generated photos and news via social media and messaging apps. It started in February 2023 when Anne logged on to Instagram to share pictures from a ski trip in the French Alps. Anne, who suffers from mental health issues, left her husband while the cheating continued. And realized it was a bait-and-switch after reading the headlines about Pitt’s girlfriend Ines de Ramon. According to TF1, Anne has now filed a police report.
“I wonder why they chose me to do something like that?” she said. ‘I’ve never harmed anyone. These people deserve hell.”
Cyberbullying
After the broadcast Seven to Eight Anne became a victim of cyberbullying, while other online users attacked television channel TF1 for failing to protect the woman from harassment.
Netflix France, for example, posted on social media: “Four films with Brad Pitt (really) for free”.
TF1 has now removed the interview from its program. Since it went viral, according to a social media post from TF1 host Harry Roselmack on Tuesday.
Brangelina, who rose to prominence through their co-leading role in the action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith were announced in 2005, finalized their divorce on December 30th. Almost eight years after Jolie filed for divorce.
Jolie and Pitt were together for 12 years and married for two. They filed for divorce after an argument during a flight during which Jolie alleged Pitt became violent toward her and the children. After an investigation by the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, it was determined that no action was necessary. The now divorced couple has six children. Four of whom are adults.
