After the spectacular cup match against Excelsior, PSV coach Peter Bosz was clear. His team escaped defeat in the round of 16 on Tuesday evening and was fortunate to win 5-4 after extra time. “I thought Excelsior deserved more.”
Referee Allard Lindhout already had the whistle in his hands and wanted to blow the whistle, but in the last second of the match Ismael Saibari shot PSV to make it 3-3. In the subsequent extra time it remained very exciting, but the home team won 5-4 against the Kitchen Champion Division club.

Bosz: “I have to give Excelsior a very big compliment. They play at a lower level, but they played 120 minutes with full commitment. They put us under pressure and played football where possible. I can well imagine the feeling that prevails there. the locker room. Football doesn’t always bring justice.”
“We all keep going until the end.”
Despite the fact that his team was behind for a long time, the trainer continued to believe in a good outcome. “As a footballer I never gave up and neither did I as a trainer. We have a team that scores a lot and creates chances. It is good to see that they all kept going until the end.”
“We couldn’t make a fist playing football.”
Bosz started with seven new players compared to the last league match against AZ, but did not expect this match. “We have to decide such a match at an early stage with all due respect for Excelsior. We couldn’t make a fist in terms of football, it wasn’t good enough. I’m going to analyze the match and assess what I can possibly take away from it.”
It was not an embarrassment and PSV is in the last eight in the TOTO KNVB Cup. “Last year we were better than Feyenoord in the eighth finals, but we lost. Now we are wrongly through, that is also football.”
“A great 120 minute workout.”
Bosz wants to get positive things out of the victory. “The boys had to make some progress, so we can see it as a great training of 120 minutes. Although that was not the intention given our very busy schedule.”
Next Saturday, PSV will visit PEC Zwolle. The important Champions League match in Serbia against Red Star awaits on Tuesday the 21st.
