The pup Ebbie, who was taken in at the Pieterburen Seal Center in early January, appears to be a very unique one. When the gray seal pup lost her white birth fur, she did not turn gray, but pitch black. The animal appears to suffer from an overproduction of the pigment melanin, something that rarely occurs in seals. The last time in the center was in 2017.
