The black and yellow are letting a top attacker move to the island: Donyell Malen is leaving Borussia Dortmund with immediate effect. BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl reveals details.
Borussia Dortmund is handing over offensive player Donyell Malen to English Premier League club Aston Villa after three and a half years. BVB announced the change immediately before the start of the Bundesliga game at Holstein Kiel on Tuesday (6.30 p.m./Sky), without giving any details – the Bundesliga club is said to receive up to 30 million euros for the Dutchman, depending on the bonus.
“I won’t comment on any numbers, in the end we tried to achieve a good result for Borussia Dortmund,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl on Sky: “But also for Donny, who expressed the wish. In the end, both parties are happy.”
Malen (25) came to Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021 for a comparable sum. He played 132 competitive games (39 goals) for BVB, including the dramatic 2-2 draw against FSV Mainz 05 at the end of the 2022/23 season. The result cost BVB the championship title.
According to coach Nuri Sahin, Dortmund will “definitely do something else” in response. According to SID information, there is great interest in left-back Renato Veiga from Chelsea FC, who can also play in central defense. Kehl emphasized in the Sky interview that he would not comment on any names.
Veiga (21) played for FC Augsburg on loan from Sporting Lisbon in the second half of the 2022/23 season. The 1.90 m tall Portugal international came to Chelsea, where he was preferred in the Conference League, in the summer via FC Basel.
