This band intends to offer something at UMK that has not been done before: “At least we’ll separate”

For heavy music This spring, the New Music competition will be hosted by a band called One Morning Left.

However, it is not heavy metal with a dark mood, but the band describes itself as making “danceable, feel-good heavy metal”.

The band, which has been making music for 16 years, consists of five members who come from different parts of Finland.

The band’s founder and main vocalist is Mika Lahti. Works as second lead vocalist and guitarist Leevi Luotoas bassist Miska Sipiläinenas a drummer Dennis Hallback and as a second guitarist Juuso Turkey.

The lyrics of the songs are written by Lahti and Turki.

“Nothing similar has been done yet”

The group tells Iltalehte that they have been considering UMK’s participation for several years. However, now they felt it was the right time to try their wings.

– Now we had the right song, crowd and vibe. Everything fell into place and we set out to test how we were doing, says lead vocalist Mika Lahti.

The song, with which the band starts the competition, was created in cooperation with the producer Curse with. Kiro is already known from UMK, as he has produced the extremely popular Käärijä Cha Cha Cha – a hit.

The name of the song from One Morning Left is Puppy. According to the members, it tells exactly what the name suggests, i.e. a puppy.

The band does not yet reveal what the song or stage show will contain.

– But there’s more to be seen on stage than the guitar. I dare to say that nothing similar has been done yet, commented Leevi Luoto.

– At least we’re breaking up. It is then up to the people of Finland to decide who will represent us.

The band members say that they are grateful for reaching the finals.

But how does a dancing horse sink into the hearts of metal folk?

– We’ll see in a moment. I believe that we are such a personal and unique thing, Luoto thinks.

– What we’ve seen at those gigs, we’ve managed to convert even the dark horsemen to our music, Lahti adds.

Gigs in Japan

One Morning Left was born when Lahti got to know someone from Jyväskylä Teemu Rautiainen community service in the IRC gallery. The band was founded in 2008.

The very next year, the band went on their first European tour. The band has also toured in Japan, for example. In 2022, One Morning Left toured with Blind Channel and the German band Electric Callboy.

One Morning Left has been doing joint gigs with UMK winner Blind Channel since 2014.

– They were very small then, the members remember.

– It has been great to follow their growth story. They have a great, big team behind them and it’s really inspiring for us too.

Just before the band left for their European tour last August, they found out about getting to the UMK final.

– It was a really confused feeling! In addition, it was difficult when we were on tour and we wanted to talk about the topic, it was almost impossible, because there were a lot of people around, the members say.

– But now we have had the stars aligned. We’ll see how it goes.

One Morning Left’s Puppy will be released on Wednesday 15.1. at 00:00. On February 8, the representative of Finland’s wisdom will be selected in the New Music competition.
