Next season the Italian rider will hunt for his fourth title, the third in the premier class, challenging Marquez. He will be able to draw inspiration from two illustrious predecessors
Not even the holidays have distracted Francesco Bagnaia from thoughts of the MotoGP World Championship. As he recently explained to Sky, the narrow defeat suffered against Jorge Martin last season still stings. At the same time it is the incentive to redeem himself during 2025. So it is not difficult to imagine what are some of the sports-related gifts that the Ducati champion wishes for himself today, 14 January, the day of his twenty-eighth birthday. Pecco wants the fourth title of his career, the third in MotoGP, even if there will be a possible very tough challenge awaiting him with his new teammate, Marc Marquez.

While waiting to understand what the growth margins of the Aprilia team will be together with the world champion Martin, in fact, the world championship fight could become a duel entirely within the Lenovo team. Bagnaia intends to resume the thread interrupted after the mockery of 2024. As long as he limits his errors, he has everything to do so: speed, consistency at the top and great ease in achieving victory. The 29 top class performers say so. If he were to win the MotoGP World Championship, he would tie Jorge Lorenzo to three championships, becoming the most successful rider in the current premier class after Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez, both holders of six laurels. The Spaniard himself, however, presents himself as a very tough obstacle. Marc appears regenerated after the season with the Gresini team and has impressive statistics: with the exception of 2020, in which however he only competed in one race, he has never lost the championship match with a teammate in MotoGP.

The twenty-eight-year-old Bagnaia will chase redemption after an unlucky year. It has already happened in the past to other drivers, curiously dethroned at the age of 27. At that age, in fact, Rossi resigned from MotoGP, in 2006, after five immaculate seasons. Things went worse for Marquez, who, as a twenty-seven year old, began a long series of physical problems in a disastrous 2020. Both did not redeem themselves in the following championship: Valentino gave up against Stoner, while Marc continued to suffer from various ailments, despite the three victories of the season. Looking only at the current maximum displacement, 28 years old represents an age at which it is difficult to win. So far, in fact, only Jorge Lorenzo has become champion at that age, winning the 2015 title. Rossi, on the other hand, is the longest-serving of the MotoGP kings, thanks to his success in 2009, when he was over 30 years old. Following in their footsteps will be a challenge within a challenge for Bagnaia.
