Emaciated gold seekers have been trapped underground in South Africa for months: “At least 100 dead”

Two months after a police raid in which South African authorities said they wanted to “smoke out” hundreds of miners from an illegal mine in Stilfontein, hundreds of workers are still trapped underground. According to a group representing them, “at least 100 people” have been killed. A rescue operation is underway.
