The first round matches ended in the evening session of the second day of the tournament held in Melbourne.

In men’s singles, 4-time grand slam champion Carlos Alcaraz (seeded number 3) defeated Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko 3-0 with sets of 6-1, 7-5 and 6-1.

Serbian Novak Djokovic (7), who has 10 Australian Open and 24 grand slam victories in his career, defeated American Nishesh Basavareddy 3-1 with sets ending 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Djokovic reached the second round of the Australian Open for the 18th time in a row, where he won his 95th victory.

In men’s category, USA’s Tommy Paul (12) beat Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7, 7-5, and Great Britain’s Jack Draper (15) beat Argentinian Mariano Navone. They advanced to the round by winning 3-2 with sets completed 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The “luck” of Italian racket Francesco Passaro, who was included in the main draw as the “lucky loser”, continued in the first round. Passaro reached the second round of the grand slam tournaments for the first time in his career after Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (10) withdrew from the match in the second set due to his injury.

In the men’s singles, where American Sebastian Korda (22), Australian Jordan Thompson (27) and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (29) advanced, Argentina’s Sebastian Baez (28) became one of the seeded tennis players eliminated.

COLLINS AND OSAKA IN THE SECOND ROUND

In women’s singles, 2022 Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins (10) from the USA won 2-0 against Ukrainian Daria Snigur with sets of 7-6, 6-3.

Four-time grand slam champion, including two at the Australian Open, Japanese Naomi Osaka beat French Caroline Garcia with a score of 2-1 (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).

Among women, top-seeded tennis players such as Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (17) and Elina Svitolina (28), Russian Liudmila Samsonova (25) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (27), Czech Carolina Muchova (20), and Polish Magdalena Frech (23) also made their names in the next round.
