Patty Brard becomes emotional when she has to say something live on television about Manuëla Kemp, with whom she had a good relationship. “This is of course not allowed at the age of 61,” she says.
The news that Manuëla Kemp will not get better and will be flown from Portugal to the Netherlands in her comatose state to die here has hit like a bombshell. Many people, including many former colleagues in the profession, are very shocked by it. They were hopeful that she would come out of her coma.
‘Then help me’
Patty Brard maintained a friendship with Manuëla and also finds it terrible. She talks about it in the Show news from last night. “I have to add that Manuëla and I have been dating for a long time. Really a friend. We didn’t break the floor together, but we did have a good friend who is really in my heart.”
She asks her colleagues and viewers for understanding if she becomes overwhelmed by emotions. “There’s even a picture of her above my bed, so if I can’t make it, help me.”
‘Look forward to it’
Presenter Airen Mylene understands that it is difficult for Patty. “I can see that it affects you a lot and I can imagine everything about that.”
Patty then says that she maintains contact with Tjerk, Manuëla’s lover. “Yes, I was really dreading this, because I also texted Tjerk this morning. I wake up every day with that photo next to me and yes… Every day I have asked her if she wants to hold on for a while, because this is of course not possible at the age of 61.”
Birthday
Patty actually hoped that Manuëla would just recover and be able to attend her birthday in March. “She just had to have a nice time at my birthday. Yes, I just think that you should bring someone over and that you should organize that as a man too… That you let someone come over and you know that he or she will not continue.”
Does she understand that Manuëla is being flown to the Netherlands in a coma? “Naturally. Then he has her with him. I don’t want to die in Ibiza or anything, you know. You know what someone wants. They also have that house there in Portugal where they go every now and then, but this is your house. This is your home. This is where you want this to happen.”
Five weeks
Patty has offered Tjerk her help. “I also texted him to ask if he wants us to come to him. He did have the company of his and her sister’s family, so he wasn’t alone, but I imagine if you get up every day and all you have to do is go to the hospital to see if she’s going to respond… ”
“Five weeks is a really long time. I just hope she comes home soon.”
