Fan harassment? Footballer’s wife gives insights

After a game in Saudi Arabia, a footballer’s wife criticized the behavior of some fans. Now she has commented on the situation again.
In recent days, videos have been circulating on social media showing Real Madrid fans and locals from Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) misbehaving after the Supercopa game between RCD Mallorca and Real Madrid (0-3). As the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” then reported, the wife of Mallorca midfielder Dani Rodríguez is said to have felt harassed by this behavior.
Cristina Palavra gave an interview to the Balearic television station “IB3” and later shared it herself on Instagram in her story (read more about the incidents here). Now Rodríguez’s wife has spoken out again and given “Bild” an interview about the incident.
Palavra explained: “Normally, the family members of professional footballers are provided with security at away games, but that was not the case with us.” This apparently allowed viewers to get very close. “Cell phones were held directly in our faces countless times to take photos and videos of us,” Palavra continued.
According to her, it was bad on the way back from the stadium to the bus: “Without even a single security guard, we were repeatedly surrounded, harassed, insulted, touched. That’s when you panic.” She tried to calm herself and others, “but we were really scared.” The native of Gelsenkirchen is therefore demanding a security concept from the Spanish association for games abroad.
