Thüringer HC got off to a brilliant start in the group phase of the European League. The THC celebrated a well-deserved victory against the Norwegian top team Larvik HK. But the club’s fans didn’t just have reason to celebrate. The THC announced that Kerstin Kühn will be moving to her native Switzerland in the summer.
The handball players from Thüringer HC celebrated a goal festival at the start of the group phase in the European League. Coach Herbert Müller’s team defeated the Norwegian top club Larvik HK with a surprisingly clear score of 43:35 (23:12) on Saturday evening (January 11, 2025). Johanna Reichert once again stood out as the best thrower of the THC. The Austrian national player excelled with 14 goals.
Johanna Reichert was unstoppable by her opponents.
Reichert stands out in one-on-one situations
The Thuringians laid the foundation for victory in the early stages. With a furious 11-0 run they moved from 3-2 to 14-2 between the fourth and 14th minutes. The THC not only shone with its fast and variable attacking game, but also with a compact defense that forced the unsettled Norwegians to make difficult throws. Although the hosts’ intensity subsequently decreased and the error rate increased slightly, the lead remained consistently high until the break. Reichert in particular did what she wanted one-on-one.
In the second round, both teams exchanged blows at a rapid pace. The Thuringians sometimes acted too passively in defense, but they didn’t allow Larvik to get closer than six goals. Four minutes before the end, Rikke Hoffbeck Petersen broke the 40-goal mark for the THC.
Kerstin Küng leaves the Thuringian HC
Before the game, the club announced that Kerstin Kühn would be leaving in the summer. The Swiss international is moving to her home country and will then play for Amicitia Zurich. THC coach Müller regrets her decision: “With Kerstin we are losing a player to whom we owe a lot and who always put herself at the service of the team with her performance.” Küng was already at THC between 2020 and 2022 and returned in the summer of 2023 after a guest appearance in Viborg and Bietigheim. She signed a two-year contract in Zurich.
