Supreme Sports Council agrees with Barça

Atlético Madrid has sharply criticized the verdict of the Supreme Sports Council of Spain in the case of FC Barcelona and the eligibility of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. “This government intervention sets a very dangerous precedent,” wrote the current runner-up. It opens the door to circumventing the rules and repeating the serious mistakes of the past.
After the league and association refused to register the two professionals, FC Barcelona went before the Supreme Sports Council. And this initially decided in favor of the Catalans, whose economic situation was the reason for the problems. Olmo came from RB Leipzig for 55 million euros before the season and was registered in the first half of the season due, among other things, to Andreas Christensen’s injury.
In order to create the financial conditions, the club sold VIP boxes in the modernized Camp Nou to an investment fund from the Arab region for 100 million euros, as Spanish media reported. “We are of the opinion that this decision puts the current system at risk and calls into question the rules of the game,” Atlético said, referring to the league’s economic requirements and the registration of professionals.
Real coach Ancelotti: “I keep what I think to myself”
“The economic control through LaLiga was the main instrument that managed to transform our football into a solvent sector,” Atlético wrote: “A process that is admired internationally.” The Sports Council’s decision now undermines this from the Madrilenians’ perspective .
When asked about the topic, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed reservations after reaching the Super Cup final against FC Barcelona late on Thursday evening in Jeddah. “Everyone has their own opinion,” he was quoted by the Spanish media after the 3-0 win against RCD Mallorca: “What I think, I keep to myself.”
