TOnew year, new fringe? Yes or no? How to choose it? We need to study the shape of the face, so as not to make mistakes. Following fashions and the latest trends may not be the best choice because it may not suit your face. So here’s one small guide on how to choose the perfect model.

From Lady Gaga to Gigi Hadid: it's fringe mania

Fringe, how to choose it based on the shape of your face

Long or short, rounded or tapered, curtain-like. Choosing the right fringe model is never easy: considered a “corrective” accessory for the cut, this it should balance the face, enhancing its strengths and camouflaging any defects. This is why it is necessary to choose the right model before it turns out to be a “small disaster”.

Leaving aside trends, the best way to choose this detail is to carefully analyze the shape of your face. The parameters to take into consideration are width and length of the face, width of the forehead and position of the cheekbones. If you want to give it a try, you could take a selfie and then draw the outline of your face over it, immediately understanding its shape.

Round face, which fringe to choose

Along with the oval face, the round face is among the most common face shapes. Given its shape, the purpose of the fringe is to rebalance the roundness. The most suitable model is therefore that straight and quite long, better if it touches the eyebrows: this model allows you to add verticality to the face.

One detail: it has to be full and slightly rounded at the roots so as to better delimit the perimeter of the face and bring out both the color and the cut of the eyes. Alternatively, you can also consider the lateral one, i.e. a long tuft that helps to slim. Better to avoid those climbs or parades instead. The icon? Taylor Swift.

Oval face and long bangs, the perfect match

If instead the face is oval, it is better to opt for a long fringe model. A bit like he does Dakota Johnson, which often shows it long and open in the center. You can shorten it slightly in the center and leave it longer at the sides.

In general, this type of face does not have particular problems with bangs, in fact there are no models that are not recommended, not even very short ones.

For a square face, long and sideways

The first characteristic that stands out of these faces is the mandibular profile, usually well defined and precise, so much so that it has an almost hard chin. How to disguise it? With a bang model long but layered, so as to give a little movement to the face.

And, above all, to be worn slightly dishevelledeven perhaps a little open, even better if the side parts are longer so as to soften the perimeter of the face.

Heart-shaped face? Better to choose a tuft

Wide forehead and pointed chin? The face is “heart-shaped”. The ideal in this case is a side tuft. The ideal length? It must touch the eyebrow and, laterally, touch the outer corner of the eye. Two reference models? Victoria Beckham, when in the early 2000s she showed off a short cut with a thinned quiff, but also Reese Wihterspoon or Ariana Grande at the 2025 Golden Globes.

Long face? Focus on the swingy bang

THEa fringe on the long face has a “shortening” effect. Sspun on the tips, it balances the whole face. Don’t exaggerate with the length: the swingy bang it should never exceed the eyebrows and at the sides it should be slightly longer so as to soften the jaw.

Triangular face? Full fringe

This type of face has a wide forehead and a thin chin. How to mitigate the result? Narrowing the forehead. For this reason it is better to choose one full and paraded fringe, therefore not geometric or even. Furthermore, it is better to choose a medium length, i.e. up to the eyebrows, or even long, up to the creation of a tuft.
