The police in Someren received a report on Thursday night of a stolen or embezzled Mercedes GLK driving on the A67 towards Asten. Officers in Lierop and officers in Helmond looked for the car. After some time, the officers saw the car driving by with a German license plate. When the police gave a signal, the car seemed to follow them to the Asten exit, but just before that the car took off at full speed.
The police gave chase, with speeds reaching up to 200 kilometers per hour. At Helenaveen the car almost got stuck between a truck and a crash barrier when he tried to overtake the truck on the hard shoulder. The chase went through Limburg into Germany. The German police were already waiting for the car and took over from the Dutch police. The car took an exit there and eventually drove into a dirt path full of snow and ice in the forest. The car was too fast for the German police there. Not much later, the car was found further away without a driver. The Dutch officers then drove back to Someren.
