The recreational swimming pool at De Kwel sports center in Cuijk will remain closed for the time being. Part of the ceiling needs to be removed. That is the advice after a structural inspection on Thursday afternoon. On Monday, technical service employees discovered after a routine check that some of the ceiling slats were bending. On Tuesday it was decided to close the entire recreational pool as a precaution.

In an email to the users of the pool, owner Sportfonds informed that the recreational pool will remain closed for the time being. “Following the inspection of the ceiling, it was recommended to partially remove the ceiling.”

Closed for a few more weeks
Although it is not necessary according to the owner of Sports Funds, rigorous measures are still being taken. The demolition work will take one to two weeks, interim manager Vincent Koch expects. “We expect the recreational pool to open again between January 20 and 27.”

A number of swimming lessons, baby and toddler swimming and swimming for the elderly are suspended until then. The competition pool, sports hall and other facilities will remain open.

Major renovation
The sports center is scheduled for major renovation. That would cost 3.5 million euros. The ceiling of the swimming pool, among other things, would then be tackled. That renovation should have started last summer. The interim location manager was previously unable to say why nothing has happened yet.
