It cannot yet be seen from the street. After all, there is still scaffolding around the spire. But since Thursday morning he has been back in his usual place: the golden rooster of the Bakenessertoren. Shining with pride, because the rooster, like the entire tower, has been thoroughly renovated.

Highest point reached

The fact that the rooster is up again does not mean that the restoration of the Bakenesser Church is completely finished. “You can compare it to the construction of a house,” explains building historian Maarten Enderman on behalf of the municipality of Haarlem. “The highest point has now been reached.”

“The rooster is back on, the crown is gilded again and the lead work is almost completed. The top of the tower is now as good as finished. Then the work can soon be completed. This way, the scaffolding can also be dismantled step by step.”

The restoration is expected to be fully completed during March. The work then took more than a year.
