Rodrigo Bentancur of Tottenham Hotspurs remained motionless on the ground in the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool FC and was treated for ten minutes.
Tottenham gave an initial update on their health status at half-time. “We can confirm that Rodrigo is conscious and able to speak. He will be taken to hospital for further examinations,” wrote the club on platform X.
The 27-year-old had an unfortunate fall while attempting a diving header from a corner in the sixth minute and remained lying on his stomach. In the 15th minute he was carried off the field by carers with a resuscitator around his mouth.
Tottenham still wins
Medical staff ran onto the field to help after a slight delay. The players on both teams quickly realized that the situation was serious and wanted to help.
The fans then applauded as Bentancur was carried off the pitch. At that point it was 0-0. But it didn’t stop there.
The 18-year-old Swede Lucas Bergvall scored the winning goal for Tottenham in the 86th minute, at which point Timo Werner had also come on as a substitute.
The second leg will take place in Liverpool on February 6th.
