The US retail group Macy’s Inc. introduced a prominent new addition to its board of directors on Monday. On April 1, Robert Chavez will join the board as an independent director, the parent company of the Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury concepts announced.

Chavez has more than 45 years of experience in the retail industry. He currently works at the French luxury fashion retailer Hermès as President and Chief Executive Officer of Hermès Americas. The 69-year-old will resign from this post, which he has held for 24 years, on March 31, Macy’s announced. Before his time at Hermès, he had, among other things, managed the Munich-based accessories specialist Etienne Aigner as CEO.

Chavez will succeed Sara Levinson on the Macy’s Board of Directors. After more than 25 years on the board, the 74-year-old has reached the age limit set by the company and will therefore not stand for re-election at the upcoming general meeting, the retailer said.
