Francesco Vanderjeugd found himself in hot water at the end of 2021 after an article in the Krant Van West-Vlaanderen. It was written that the mayor may have been guilty of a conflict of interest in some real estate projects.

According to the newspaper, Vanderjeugd bought land with insider knowledge. This concerned land intended for future construction projects and subdivisions. As mayor, former mayor Vanderjeugd is also said to have granted permits himself to sell his own land.

It is now up to the court to decide whether there is a conflict of interest. Vanderjeugd himself denies this. This morning the case will be argued in Kortrijk. A ruling will follow later.
