A striking holiday photo on the Instagram page of PSV striker Noa Lang. He seems to hang out with footballer Quincy Promes. Promes was convicted of drug trafficking, among other things. He has been detained in the United Arab Emirates since last year, awaiting possible extradition to the Netherlands.

The photo shows Promes at the table with Noa Lang and former PSV footballer Steven Bergwijn. It is unclear exactly when the photo was taken.

PSV has now started preparations for the second half of the season. Next Saturday the team will play against AZ Alkmaar.

Condemned
In February last year, Promes was sentenced by the court in Amsterdam to six years in prison for involvement in the smuggling of a total of more than 1,350 kilos of cocaine through the port of Antwerp.

He was sentenced to eighteen months in prison in June 2023 for assaulting his cousin. Both cases are combined in the appeal.

Arrested in Dubai
Last year, he was arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service, while he was at a training camp with Spartak Moscow. The Public Prosecution Service wants the footballer to be extradited for the double conviction. His contract with the Russian club was terminated in June 2024 because he could not fly back to Russia after the training camp.

A few months later, Promes signed a one-season contract with United FC Dubai, which plays in the second level of the United Arab Emirates.

Appeal
Promes has appealed against the two convictions. He did not want to attend his appeal if he ran the risk of ending up in jail upon arrival in the Netherlands, his lawyer said recently.

Because the process against his extradition is still ongoing, he may await his trial in freedom under certain conditions.
