Youp van ‘t Hek’s car was set on fire on New Year’s Eve and did not survive the vandalistic attack. “Next week I will receive the current value in my account.”
There is always a lot of hassle and damage on New Year’s Eve and Youp van ‘t Hek also knows all about that. He had to arrange alternative transport on the last day of the year, because he could no longer drive the car. “I myself lost my soon-to-be-banned diesel on New Year’s Eve,” he writes NRC column.
Car broken down
The car was thirteen years old and had 450,000 kilometers on the odometer. “Due to my financial laxity, he was still fully insured. I parked him in the center of Culemborg and the drunk youth cremated him festively. Next week I will receive the current value in my account.”
Attempts were made to extinguish the car. “For a moment I was afraid that diesel would not work well. That is true, but the partying crowd made it very professionally impossible for the fire brigade to extinguish the fire.”
Cobras
The emergency workers who came to Youp’s car were attacked. “Sidewalk tiles, cobras, flower boxes and avalanche arrows went their way. And never say that drunk people can’t aim. Everything was spot on. And a good shot too. Two ambulances came for the few injured firefighters, but they were also pelted profusely.”
“The ambulance crew sat bleeding on the cold paving stones. One was lying down comfortably. Own fault. They shouldn’t have become paramedics.”
