Perfect weekend for Lisa Buckwitz in Winterberg: After winning the monobob, she also won the two-man race on Sunday (January 5, 2025), leaving Laura Nolte, who was leading at halftime, just behind her.
Buckwitz, with pusher Kira Lipperheide, was still 0.31 seconds behind Olympic champion Nolte after the first run, but rose to the top in the final with a strong run. Her lead over Nolte was only 0.01 seconds after two runs. Kim Kalicki rounded off the perfect result from a German perspective and came third (+0.20 seconds).
For Buckwitz it was the first victory in the two-man bobsleigh this winter. Nolte won the races in Altenberg and Sigulda. In Winterberg, however, as in the monobob, she had to admit defeat to her teammate, who also continued to make up ground in the overall ranking.
Buckwitz intercepts Nolte in the final
The day before, Nolte had already faltered in the monobob right on her doorstep and had only finished in fifth place. In the two-man bobsleigh, things initially went promising for the Winterberg native. She was the only pilot to beat 57 seconds in the first run and was in good position to take her third win of the season.
Buckwitz countered with a dream run in the second run, set the best start time and also cracked 57 seconds (56.76). As the last starter, Nolte was no longer able to counter, was already slower than her competitor at the start and had to admit defeat by the tiniest of a hundredth of a second.
