Last year, Luke Littler narrowly missed out on the world title. Now the darts prodigy crowned himself with the trophy – and another.
Luke Littler did it. After losing to Luke Humphries in the World Cup final at the Ally Pally in London last year, he secured the title on Friday evening with a 7-3 victory over three-time champion Michael van Gerwen. Afterwards, he beamed and lifted the Sid Waddell Trophy. But the 17-year-old won another trophy.
Thanks to an impressive 76 180 shots in the tournament, the Englishman also secured the “Ballon d’Art”, an award given to the player with the most maximums.
In the final against Michael van Gerwen alone, the Englishman threw twelve 180 shots. However, he did not break Michael Smith’s tournament record (83). Littler, who is still young, still has a lot of time for that. One day after the World Cup final, Luke Humphries is still at the top of the darts world rankings. After last year’s winner, Littler follows. The newly crowned world champion wrote on Instagram about a photo of himself with a trophy: “A dream has come true.”
