Patty Brard finds it ridiculous and absurd that Eric Corton describes our country as a ‘godforsaken deeply racist country’. “For God’s sake, shut your mouth!” shouts the television diva. “Speak for yourself!“
Eric Corton, radio DJ at KINK, has appeared in a talk show of the public broadcaster, namely The Societymade quite a striking statement. He believes that the Netherlands is a very racist country and points in particular to the many people who voted for Geert Wilders’ party in the House of Representatives elections.
Deeply racist country
We are a wrong country, Eric believes. “Make no mistake, right… There are always people who say: ‘Yes, I voted PVV, but I am not racist, but I am not this, but I am not that.’ We are! We are a godforsaken deeply racist country! We are definitely a racist country, yes. I am really convinced of that.”
“These are only very small things that need to be done and the focus is immediately on them again! And no one actually stands up. I really miss the counter fire on all sides.”
Patty critical
What does Jack van Gelder think? He voted for PVV. “I don’t feel addressed at all,” he says The Orange Winter. “I always think it’s nice that people talk about racism and that they themselves discriminate. I think that’s what’s striking. (…) Anyone who does not believe in Islam are pagans, so they are discriminated against.”
Patty Brard, who also sits at the table with Hélène Hendriks, joins him. “I also think when he says something like that… I think that you trigger something, which makes me think: for God’s sake, shut your mouth! Because you say something and I think: speak for yourselfbut not for us! ‘We are a racist country.’ What do you want to say? We are a country of dissatisfied people.”
‘No racists!’
According to Patty, the Netherlands is not racist at all. “Racist is when one people looks down on another and I don’t think it is in our nature to look down on anything.”
“What I do think is that we have a lot of uncertainties at the moment and a lot of dissatisfaction. Then they will probably choose the one with the biggest mouth and they think: he will do something for us, but that does not make us racist.”
