The Swiss scene favorites enrich their beatdown with nu-metal and hip-hop elements.

One of the oldest truths in pop? The meaning of “pop” changes every day. And when a band like deathcore necromancers Lorna Shore are nominated at the Grammys and hardcore hype object Knocked Loose are even nominated for the same, then that’s probably pop too. So who are Paleface Swiss? In the local metal scene: favorites for a long time. With their beatdown – hard core music with rapped screams – they have been pouring the ugliest sides into sound since the end of the pandemic.

Paleface Swiss know exactly how far they can go without losing their essence and the goodwill of the fans

CURSED also follows this pattern: “Hatred” radiates exactly what the title suggests in the most brutal way, and “My Blood On Your Hands” is pure anger and despair despite the a cappella part. However, the four Swiss deviate from their line a few times – and experiment with influences from Nu Metal, Death Metal or even Hip Hop. The choppy rapfow and dissonant guitar tones on “…and with hope you’ll be damned” could also have been borrowed from a Korn song. The fact that this is immediately followed by a guitar solo breaks every hardcore rule – because solos are actually strictly forbidden. Perhaps to appease all the horrified purists, perhaps also to preserve the hardcore image, the obligatory in-your-face breakdown follows.

The next shocker comes on “Enough”: The entire first half of the song consists of a rap part without screams over a trap beat. After about a minute and a half: “Bring back that old school shit, let’s give them what they want!” Paleface Swiss know exactly how far they can go without losing their essence and ultimately the goodwill of the fans.
