The fifth consecutive decline of the Italian market sends the balance of 2024 into the red compared to 2023: minus 0.5% and the forecasts for 2025 are not good
The 2024 of Italian automotive market it ended badly, given the 5% decline in December which consolidates the negative trend consolidated at the end of the summer. The fifth consecutive month in the red in 2024 resulted in a 0.5% decline in the final balance with 2023: 1,558,704 registrations in the year just ended, compared to 1,566,521 last year. The forecasts for 2025 are not positive: high price lists, for electric but also for thermal, less extensive product offerings than in the past and increasingly limited purchasing power of Italian salaries, were the main drags on the internal market which, at least in the first months of the year, had shown signs of growth compared to 2023. What we remember today as the glories of 2019 are now distant in time and numbers: over 358,000 fewer units (-18.7%).

In Italy in 2024, the transition towards zero-emission mobility has not shown significant progress in terms of volumes: in December electric cars close at 5.5% share, a better result than that obtained in November (5.3%) but significantly less good than the 6% in December 2023. From the point of view of car groups, Stellantis remains the most widespread in Italy but in one year in terms of volumes it drops by over 50 thousand units: in 2024 registrations are 454,013 compared to 505,518 in 2023. The Volkswagen group closes with a progress of 0.6% the year just ended at 264,255 pieces. Positive signs also for Renault (+10.8%, 184,422 registrations); Toyota (+25.9%, 129,036); Hyundai (+1.6%, 97,256); BMW (+5.1%, 83,352).
