Midfielder Matthew Garbett may leave the technical management of NAC Breda. The New Zealand international will not attend the training camp that the Eredivisie player is organizing in Alicante, Spain. The same goes for Spanish defender Manel Royo and Slovakian back Martin Koscelnik.

“These players are allowed to look for a new challenge and are given the freedom to seek refuge elsewhere,” the Breda football club writes on the website. “NAC’s technical management recently gave them that message in open and personal conversations.”

Garbett took part in the Olympic football tournament with New Zealand last summer. At the end of November he became controversial after being accused of racism against Willem II player Jeremy Bokila. NAC investigated and later reported that ‘no overall conclusion could be drawn, other than that it remains unclear what exactly happened’.

According to the Breda club, Garbett had become involved in this incident through no fault of his own and was wrongly identified as a possible perpetrator. William II accepted that explanation.
