New year, new role. Jürgen Klopp’s adventure as Global Football Director at Red Bull and all the teams he controls officially begins on New Year’s Eve. The former Dortmund and Liverpool manager will have to face a series of particular challenges: Leipzig and (above all) Salzburg are experiencing a sporting crisis (and the fans are in turmoil), but the development of the talents of the various RB-branded teams should not be underestimated. In his new position, Klopp will lead Red Bull’s international football projects, which include clubs not only in Germany and Austria, but also in France, Brazil, America, Portugal and Japan. He won’t deal with Leeds, out of respect for Liverpool.

the agenda

According to the programme, Klopp will arrive in Salzburg between 6 and 7 January for training. He will subsequently go to the Red Bull headquarters in Monaco to meet with technical director Mario Gomez. A meeting with Leipzig coach Marco Rose, currently at risk of sacking, is scheduled for January 12th, while he will be presented at a press conference on the 14th. At the end of January Klopp will embark on an important trip around the world. He would like to familiarize himself with the structures of the different clubs in the RB galaxy. His first stop will be Sao Paulo in Brazil, followed by visits to the New York Red Bulls, Omiya Ardija in Japan and Paris FC in France. He will be followed by Peter Krawietz, who has already worked with him as assistant coach at Dortmund and Liverpool.

enthusiasm

“It could be the best year of our lives,” Klopp wrote on social media. The current coach of the Austrian national team Ralf Rangnick previously occupied a role similar to his: “I held this position for a year and a half – explained the former Red Bull -. I know that it can be a very exciting, demanding task and complex, but also time-consuming.” Yet in ideas Klopp’s role will be even more intense. He is expected to take the Red Bull model to a new level, becoming the mastermind of the various teams. It would be a sort of Rangnick 2.0.
