The German ski jumpers around Pius Paschke still have to wait for the first podium place at the 73rd Four Hills Tournament. In the clear victory of the Austrian Daniel Tschofenig, Paschke did not get past ninth place on New Year’s Day in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Jumps of 129 and 143.5 meters were not enough to threaten the dominant ÖSV team on the large Olympic ski jump. Pius Paschke also loses his yellow jersey as the overall World Cup leader to Daniel Tschofenig, who also leads the tour standings. The best German was Karl Geiger in sixth place.
Continuation on Saturday in Innsbruck
In addition to Tschofenig, Gregor Deschwanden from Switzerland in second and Austria’s Michael Hayböck in third also made it onto the first podium of 2025 in front of 22,000 spectators in the sold-out stadium.
In the overall tour standings, Paschke is already clearly behind the strong Austrians around Tschofenig. Germany has not had an overall winner since Sven Hannawald in January 2002. There hasn’t been a German winner in Garmisch since Hannawald 23 years ago.
Andreas Wellinger (10th), Philipp Raimund (19th) and Felix Hoffmann (25th) also made it to the second round and scored World Cup points.
The tour continues on Saturday (1:30 p.m./ARD and Eurosport) at Bergisel in Innsbruck. The day before, the qualification increases at the same time. Thursday is a rest day.
