Three people were arrested following the out-of-control car fires in Veen last night. The police announced this. It is not clear where they come from. A police car was completely burned out. The riot police carried out charges to restore peace.

Near the intersection of Witboomstraat and Van der Loostraat in Veen, where cars have been set on fire during New Year’s Eve for decades, New Year’s Eve was hit again. Eight wagons were reduced to ashes. A police car was also set on fire. The Mobile Unit (ME) was needed to restore peace.

According to the police, the atmosphere was still pleasant at the beginning of the night. Officers watched from a distance. That changed when a window of a police car was smashed around half past two, followed by a loud bang. The car immediately caught fire.

After the explosion, the atmosphere changed and the police had to call for reinforcements. Officers were pelted and the riot police had to carry out charges. In the meantime, the fire brigade extinguished the police car.
