The change of star coach Jürgen Klopp is still causing discussions. His long-time companion Hans-Joachim Watzke is particularly unhappy about one circumstance.
Jürgen Klopp’s arrival as Red Bull’s global football boss also has an impact on his friendship with Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke. “I am and will always remain his friend. Jürgen has so many contributions to Borussia Dortmund that we have to respect that. The only thing I regret is the fact that I no longer talk to him about Borussia Dortmund in our conversations “That won’t happen anymore,” said Watzke in an interview with “Sport Bild”.
Klopp will take up his position at the group on January 1st. In his new role he is also responsible for the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. He coached Dortmund from 2008 to 2015 and led them to the German championship twice during this time. A commitment to BVB would also have been possible for the 57-year-old.
“We discussed that at some point a long time ago. Jürgen knows very well that he could almost have chosen his job at Borussia Dortmund. But I think that he didn’t want to be solely responsible for running a club in the sporting area. It’s a completely different thing Whether you do a project with five or six clubs as a kind of supervisor or return to Borussia Dortmund,” said Watzke.
