In the wallet

  • First of all, the minimum wage will increase. That was 13.68 euros per hour and will be 14.08 euros per hour.
  • The state pension and benefits are linked to the minimum wage, so they will also increase. View on the website Social Insurance Bank (SVB) how much AOW you will receive in the new year.
  • Many allowances are going up. The maximum healthcare allowance will increase by 8 euros and the rental allowance will increase by an average of 12 euros per month. The child budget and childcare allowance will also increase.
  • The energy bill goes up. Next year, households will spend an average of 60 euros more per year on gas and electricity.
  • Drinking water is becoming more expensive. PWN, the company that supplies water in most of North Holland, increases the price of 1000 liters of drinking water from 1.77 euros to 1.92 euros.
  • Health insurance is also becoming more expensive again. The health insurance premium will average 158 euros in 2025, 11 euros per month more than last year. That is 132 euros per year.

Traffic fines

A number of traffic fines will increase slightly from January 1. We have listed the most common ones for you.

  • For example, in the new year you will receive a fine of 430 euros (was 420 euros) if you are busy with your phone behind the wheel.
  • Driving through red lights or overtaking on the right (from 300 euros to 310 euros) will also become more expensive, as will unnecessary driving on the left (from 270 euros to 280 euros) and not wearing your seat belt (from 180 euros to 190 euros).
  • A number of fines for cycling are also increasing. Cycling with your phone in your hand will cost 170 euros, driving through a red light will cost 120 euros. If your bicycle lighting is not good, it will cost you 75 euros in the new year.

Other

  • New rules apply for self-employed people in the new year. The Tax Authorities will enforce the self-employed person law. That law must make a distinction between when someone is self-employed and when someone works as a disguised employee. According to that law, there may be no relationship of authority. The enforcement of bogus self-employment caused a lot of unrest on the labor market. It was therefore decided to enforce the law, but not to impose fines until 2025. The new year is therefore a transition year.
  • From January 1, Amsterdam will introduce a zero-emission zone for commercial vehicles in the city center. This means that new vans and trucks that are not electric or run on hydrogen are no longer allowed into the center. This rule applies to company cars registered on January 1 or later. Older vans and cars are still allowed to enter the city for a number of years. How many years depends on their emission class.
  • It will again be permitted to drive 130 kilometers per hour on a number of highway sections, including the Afsluitdijk. But please note: this will not change as of January 1. It is not yet entirely clear when this will come into effect, but the government’s aim is to increase the speed limit by the second quarter of 2025 at the latest.
