“The weather and especially the wind are too unpredictable. That is why we have decided to postpone the end-of-year fireworks for everyone’s safety. We are moving it to Saturday January 4 and will have a light show tonight under the light tunnel in Adolf Buylstraat,” says mayor John Crombez. The breakwaters are also closed on New Year’s Day for this reason. The city also recommends avoiding parks. De Panne already decided yesterday not to let the fireworks take place.
In Middelkerke and Sint-Idesbald, near Koksijde, the fireworks will continue as usual at midnight. “The wind blows from land towards the sea. So there is little to no danger of flares hitting people or homes.” Fireworks are also planned in Westende on January 1. Due to the weather, this will take place an hour later, at 7:00 PM instead of 6:00 PM. Parks will be closed on January 1.
