It is a regular occurrence: this New Year’s Eve and night was also full of fireworks and incidents. Here and there people were arrested for violent incidents, in West Friesland there were two victims in a fireworks accident and a major fire raged. But there is also good news: the main prize of the Staatsloterij has fallen on a ticket purchased in Heemskerk.

Half a lot then, but still good for about 15 million euros tax-free. The winning number is DR 16223. Because that lottery number was purchased as two half tickets, there are two winners who can divide the jackpot of 30 million euros.

One of the winners is now known to the Staatsloterij, because he bought the ticket online. It concerns someone from Bladel in North Brabant. The other winner is not yet known, but it is clear where the ticket was purchased.

Hundreds of annual salaries

Anyone who has purchased a state lottery ticket at CIGO fortune shop Bekker in Heemskerk would do well to check the number. Who knows, you may be hundreds of annual salaries richer from today.

A multiple of 15 million euros was raised today. Legally, the Dutch bought fireworks worth 112 million euros, a record. And that doesn’t even include what we spent in Germany and Belgium.

Many shows, including those in Amsterdam, were canceled due to strong winds. But consumers were not stopped: shortly after noon, a large number of the fireworks went into the air. And also in municipalities where a cross-cut ban applies – such as Amsterdam, Alkmaar and Haarlem – was a blast.

Museumplein was the only place in the capital where a show was given at midnight. As far as we know, it remained pleasant there, but hours earlier it was already restless on Dam Square, where fireworks were also being lit. Around 11.45 p.m., the police had arrested several people there, AT5 reported in a live blog about old & new.

Fireworks accident

Half an hour before New Year’s Eve, things had gone terribly wrong in a yard on the Westeinderweg in Wognum (West Friesland). Two young men were seriously injured when a piece of fireworks exploded.

According to a spokesperson for the Safety Region, one of the victims had the fireworks in his hands. “And the other one was standing not far away.” The two were rushed to hospital with unknown injuries.

Building on fire, site evacuated

Shortly after New Year’s Eve things went wrong in Medemblik. The roof of a building caught fire at Korte Brake. It turned out to be the outbuilding of a warehouse. Because, according to a spokesperson for the Safety Region, there was ‘a meeting’ there, the fire brigade cleared the warehouse and the site.

It is not known whether there were people present in the affected building. It is clear that gas bottles were found there. It is said to be laughing gas, but the spokesperson cannot confirm that reading.

Arrests

In addition to the center of Amsterdam, it was also unrest in the Nieuw-West district. The riot police had to be involved there to keep groups of young people in check. Arrests have been made, among others, at the Jock Lockehof in Nieuw-West.

There were also violent incidents, (car) fires and fireworks incidents in many other places.
