Long lines at oliebollen stalls, the necessary bonfires and of course lots of carbide. Drenthe celebrated New Year’s Day extensively today, despite the sometimes chilly weather.

Here and there we didn’t stay dry in the province, but it was mainly the cold wind that was sometimes tough. But Drent didn’t stay home because of it.

This morning there were already rows of people at oliebollen stalls in Assen, Klazienaveen and Zuidlaren, among others. In the latter village, by the way, there was a striking oliebollen baker in the stall: René Karst. He did not do this for his own wallet, because the proceeds go to the CliniClowns.
