Fidan Ekiz has started to fade into oblivion since the end of Op1. She is not welcome at Today Inside, but why don’t we see her in other talk shows? “That is conscious.”
There was a time when Fidan Ekiz was an indispensable part of television talk shows, especially HLF8. It was so bad that she was scheduled at the same time as her ex-lover Wierd Duk and that led to serious bickering between the two on national television. He is now at Today Inside, but she is not welcome there.
Fidan not welcome
Wilfred Genee boycotts Fidan at VI, after the two once incredibly shouted at each other behind the scenes of Op1. “Then my wife finally intervened. She came in and said: ‘Wilfred, this is no longer fun, we are going home. You shouldn’t want this,’” he said about this earlier.
Wilfred also had no contact with her then co-host Jeroen Pauw for a long time, but that turned out okay. However, that no longer happens with Fidan. He recently said in VI that she is absolutely never welcome at the table.
Not on talk shows
Why don’t we see Fidan more on other television talk shows? Is that because many people find her polarizing? “What I say is indeed not always appreciated. That’s fine, it’s part of it. On TV you have to react quickly if you want to make a point, so it doesn’t help to use an unctuous tone.”
She continues in the Avrobode: “I increasingly wonder what the benefits are. Can I reach someone this way? I still enjoy appearing on talk shows and giving my opinion, but I do it less. I have hardly been anywhere in recent months.”
Essay
How does Fidan want to convey her message to the people? “I prefer to tell something based on a documentary, essay or book. Then it has more body and I can look at a subject from multiple sides.”
She concludes: “Instead of giving a spicy quote, I prefer to discuss a topic for an hour. In that respect, De Nieuwe Maan, which I presented a few years ago, suited me well. I hope that one day I can make a discussion program.”
