The German ski jumpers presented themselves well in the qualifying for New Year’s jumping. But once again the Austrians were at the forefront.
Nine German ski jumpers have qualified for the traditional New Year’s jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Wednesday, from 2 p.m. in the t-online live ticker). The best DSV Adler in qualification on Tuesday was Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf) in seventh place. He reached 133.5 meters and 140.2 points.
The Austrian Jan Hörl won with 137.5 meters and 146.9 points. His teammates Daniel Tschofenig (146.1 points) and Michael Hayböck (145.0) took second and third place.
Pius Paschke was the second best German in ninth place (138.2 points) in front of 10,000 spectators at the Olympic ski jump. Of the ten German starters, only Adrian Tittel missed the top 50, which will start at the New Year’s competition.
After his fourth place at the start in Oberstdorf, Paschke is the only German who can still hope to win the tour. But in the new year he has to make up ground on the Austria trio Stefan Kraft, Hörl and Tschofenig, who are ahead of him. At least Oberstdorf winner Kraft showed slight weaknesses in eleventh place.
Returnee Markus Eisenbichler also easily made it into the top 50 in 27th place. The former world champion is part of the national group that the DSV can only bring to the start in Garmisch. Eisenbichler is hoping to start in Innsbruck on Saturday, but Felix Hoffmann (Goldlauter/28th) also expressed his ambitions.
Philipp Raimund (Oberstdorf/17th) is unlikely to give up his place, but Stephan Leyhe (Willingen/29th) has to worry. Constantin Schmid (Oberaudorf/40th) and Luca Roth (Messstetten/49th) also made it into the competition from the B team.
