According to a police spokesperson, a tip had been received showing that there were prohibited fireworks in houses on Wieringenlaan.

There, the police came across more than 140 kilos of different types of professional and consumer fireworks, including mortar bombs.

The suspects, two men aged 35 and 41 from the municipality of Edam-Volendam, have renounced the fireworks. They must report to the police station for questioning.

Forbidden or not

According to the police, it is prohibited to store more than 25 kilos of fireworks in a place that is not accessible to the public, such as a home or shed. This rule also applies to fireworks that may be set off during New Year’s Eve.

You are also not allowed to have firecrackers, firecrackers such as Chinese mats, single shots, flares and Roman candles in your possession.

Professional fireworks may only be stored and lit by professionals and not by private individuals. A large number of fireworks from this category are prohibited for private use in the Netherlands.
