Ten fingers, ten toes and a big head of hair. With the birth of Milou van Dijk on December 1, there are now five generations of women in the family of Jantje Bruins-Warring from Borger. She and her great-great-granddaughter are a hundred years apart.

When little Milou is placed in her great-great-grandmother’s arms for the first time, it is love at first sight. “What a beautiful doll! They weren’t that beautiful before,” says 100-year-old Jantje, laughing. It’s a joke, because everything shows how proud the centenarian is of her (grand)daughters.

The five generations consist of Milou van Dijk (0), Charyl Meijerink (24), Jannita Huiting (51), Janny Huiting (73) and Jantje Bruins-Warring (100). It is a special moment for mother Charyl. “I was nervous to come here, because my great-grandmother had not yet seen the little one. And now my daughter is very happy sitting on her lap. That is very nice to see.”
