As part of the market value updates, Transfermarkt has adjusted the players in the Championship. At the top of the league is a professional from AFC Sunderland, whose name is known worldwide. The Black Cats, along with Sheffield United, are the big winners of the update in England’s second division. Premier League relegated Burnley loses the most.

Jobe Bellingham (19), the younger brother of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham (21), received an increase of 6 million and is now worth 18 million euros. This makes him the most valuable professional in the Championship along with Wilfried Gnonto (21) from Leeds United, whose market value increases by 2 million euros, Anel Ahmedhodzic (25) from Sheffield United and Burnley’s James Trafford (22). Leeds keeper Illan Meslier (24) falls by 2 million euros and loses the top position. Bellingham has four goals and three assists in 20 games and was most recently linked to BVB.

The biggest winner, however, is Borja Sainz (23) from Norwich City. With 15 goals in 23 games, the Spanish offensive player leads the top scorers list by a clear margin. After his outstanding performance, his market value increased by 445 percent, 9.5 million euros, to 12 million euros. This makes him the third most valuable player on his team. In the league-wide comparison, he ranks 15th.

The biggest losers from this update are Burnley’s Lyle Foster (24), whose market value falls by €4m to €9m, Luton’s Carlton Morris (29), who is down €3m, and Leeds trio Meslier, Manor Solomon (25) and Maximilian Wöber (26), all of which are devalued by 2 million euros.

Five German professionals earn their money in the second English league, two of them have received a new market value. Burnley defender Jordan Beyer (24) receives the third minus in a row and is devalued by one million euros to 8 million euros. Patrick Bauer (32), central defender from Preston North End, has not yet played this season and is at 250,000 euros after a loss of 50,000 euros. Tom Krauß (23), Marvin Mehlem (27) and Kwadwo Baah (21) maintain their previous assessment.

Significant plus for Sunderland – relegated Burnley downgraded

Bellingham is an example of Sunderland, whose squad value increases by 16.3 million to 116.6 million euros. This means the Black Cats have the third most valuable squad in the Championship. Eight players received an upgrade, including Dennis Cirkin (22; +4 million), Chris Rigg (17; +3 million), Romaine Mundle (21; +2.5 million) and Trai Hume (22; +1.5 million). The second biggest winner is Sheffield United, who improved their squad value by €15.8 million.

Relegated Burnley, who are in the middle of the promotion race, receive the biggest devaluation. Vincent Kompany’s former club recorded a loss of 10.7 million euros and, with a squad value of 176.9 million euros, is only the second most valuable club behind Leeds United. A total of 15 Burnley professionals are experiencing a decline in market value.

This is how transfer market market values work

The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
