Neil Young shared a video of himself performing the song “Pardon My Heart.” It is the first live performance of the song in five decades.

There is hardly anything nicer than sitting comfortably by the fireplace over the holidays and singing a few old songs. Neil Young thought so too and recorded a second part of the “Fireside Sessions”.

In the homemade videos, the songwriter sits in a living room in front of the fireplace and plays his own pieces on his acoustic guitar. In the first clip, he sang “Silver & Gold” on Christmas Day, a live rarity he hadn’t played in nearly 20 years. Now he performed “Pardon My Heart” for the first time in 50 years.

While he recorded “Silver & Gold” almost in the darkness, much more can be seen in the new effort. Neil Young, however, is content with a place in the background – there is a large, white, fluffy dog in the front of the picture. This time he didn’t take the photo on Instagram, but instead on his website uploaded, he wrote:

“Hello again, guys. Pretty relaxed versions here. This is our second fireside this season….
Kind regards to you all
PEACE

Dear Earth,
Have a good time,
Neil and Daryl”

“Pardon My Heart”: The last time live in 1974

According to “Setlist.fm,” the Canadian had only played “Pardon My Heart” live twice before. He debuted it at New York’s Bottom Line in May 1974, telling the audience at the time with dry humor: “Here’s a love song I recently learned… I wrote it too.”

A few months later he played it with his band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young on Long Island. In 1975, the track appeared on Young’s seventh studio LP Zuma. It’s about the failed relationship with actress Carrie Snodgress, with whom he was together for four years and has a son together.

Neil Young is fit again after a recovery break

Neil Young had to cancel most of his “Love Earth Tour” this year due to illness. In a statement, he explained that his body had signaled him to take a break. After a short recovery period, he returned to the stage with his band Chrome Hearts in September. In October he played a benefit gig with Stephen Stills and John Mayer in Lake Hughes, California. A summer tour is planned for 2025 in which some of the canceled concerts will be rescheduled.
