André van Duin has been saying in the media for a while that he is working on a new Animal Crackers. It turns out he has now finished an entire series, but it is not appearing on TV. “No money.”
In the 1980s, André van Duin had great success with the Animal Crackers program, in which he enhances images of animals with humorous voices, sound effects and music. The comedian has been working on a return for a while, but it now looks like that will no longer happen.
‘Far too expensive’
André has already finished a whole new season, but it wasn’t easy, he says. “Zoos no longer want their animals to be ridiculed. But the BBC has beautiful images from nature and so I edited them, with my voice and all kinds of sound effects,” he says in Veronica Super guide.
What is the status of that now? “It’s done. But the public broadcaster cannot afford it. The image rights appear to be far too expensive. I understand that, because those BBC people had to lie in the bushes for a week to shoot certain images.”
All of Holland Bakt
Then André simply focuses on Heel Holland Bakt. Or will he stop doing that too, just like Maarten van Rossem and Philip Freriks with De Slimste Mens? No, he answers. “I need a reason to get up in the morning. I can stop, but then I’ll be at home, so what?
“People still like it, and that also applies to Janny and I’s boat. That’s like a vacation for me. Then why should I stop?”
