The artists Hannah Mae from Emmen and Tangarine from Assen are the new candidates for the TV program the Best Singers. Broadcaster AVROTROS will announce the candidates on April 1 and it is certainly no joke. In addition to Tangarine and Hannah Mae, Karin Bloemen, Claude, Sera, Rikki Borgelt (Rondé) and Matthijn Buwalda are also participating.
But not only the people of Emmen are impressed, the southeastern town of Drenthe certainly also touches the royal family. “Thank you very, very, very much,” King Willem-Alexander begins his closing speech. “Emmen has shown that it is an incredibly strong city where all kinds of things happen. If something is good, they say here: ‘it could have been done less’. Well, Emmen, it could have been done much less. Thank you!”
But how is it possible that the city is usually found at the bottom of the quality of life lists? “Those lists are completely wrong. It is an incredibly beautiful place to work, live and recreate. Everyone who lives here can be very proud of what happens here,” says our king.
Queen Máxima adds a few things. “We spoke to a few people from the cultural sector, who were not originally from Drenthe. They told us that they consciously came to Drenthe for the peace, space and inspiration. And of course not to forget the ‘naoberhood’. Apparently there is an atmosphere some magic in the air here.”
