Rumors about the departure of BVB reserve goalkeeper Marcel Lotka have been circulating for a few weeks now, and now a change seems to be becoming concrete. Bundesliga competitor 1. FC Heidenheim is said to be looking for the 23-year-old.

According to information from “Ruhr NewsThe people from Heidenheim contacted Lotka and made an initial offer. His contract in Dortmund expires at the end of the season, then Lotka could move on a free transfer. The regulars in the second team are said to have rejected an extension at BVB; last chance for a transfer for Borussia.
In Heidenheim, Lotka would then be the first contender for the legacy of club icon Kevin Müller. The long-time regular goalkeeper – record player in the current FCH squad – will celebrate his 34th birthday in March and could leave the club in the summer. His working paper is also only valid until the summer, and Müller also has obvious doubts about a longer future at Brenz. Although he could imagine staying, as he emphasized at the beginning of the month, he still dreams of working in England. There should be interest from the island. No further developments in the contract negotiations with the Heidenheimers are known.
BVB: Heidenheim wants Lotka immediately – “win-win situation”?
With the prospect of Lotka possibly being able to follow in Müller’s footsteps in the near future, TM user “jost224” sees the possible change as a “win-win situation”. In the rumor mill he writes: “Kevin Müller is of course a blatant icon. But let’s be honest: If Heidenheim hadn’t had such a spark as a club, then they would never have become a Bundesliga goalkeeper. He’s not a ‘weak’ keeper, by no means, but if he obviously doesn’t appreciate his luck and turns down extra time: Lotka or Jonas Urbig (1. FC Köln, editor) are looking for a club and are certainly no worse or less ‘talented’ as a miller.”
According to the report, the Heidenheimers are expressly pushing for an immediate move in the coming January transfer window, although Lotka would be available for free in the summer. Given the market value of the Duisburg native, which he was able to maintain at 1.3 million euros this season, a transfer fee in the millions would not be unrealistic, even though BVB does not have the best negotiating position with the expiring contract. They are said to have already prepared for this scenario, while Lotka himself had already sought a change last summer. However, the interested party at the time, Eintracht Braunschweig, did not receive the contract from Dortmund.
