“A hard, dull thud.” When Bert Tielen from Zevenbergen hears that, he has no idea what it could be. But it is immediately clear that something is wrong. Once outside, he finds out that a car has crashed into the facade of his neighbor. His wife calls 911 and he tries to help the neighbors. “The neighbor across the street was watching TV, she was completely hotel trash.”
A mistake while parking, is how Bert describes the accident. A driver from Willemstad crashes into the facade of her neighbors across the street. “She wanted to get some flowers here and parked the car on my side of the street. But when she crossed the road she hit another car and that scared her,” Bert explains.

“It was an electric car and in her fright she stepped on the accelerator,” Bert continues. “Those electric cars nowadays are like a projectile. They hit the facade on the other side.” Bert’s wife quickly calls 911 and he rushes to the neighbors.
Unscathed
The couple who live opposite Bert were at home when the car crashed into the facade. “The neighbor across the street was watching TV in her chair by the window. She was completely hotel-deprived. Her husband was still upstairs. I didn’t really know what to do. Which woman needed the most help?”
Fortunately, neither woman required immediate medical attention. Yet that would have made little difference, according to Bert. “During the collision, a large piece of glass fell in. Fortunately, it did not hit the neighbor.” The driver also escaped unscathed. “But she was very shocked,” says Bert.
According to Bert, the couple is now with their daughter who also lives in Zevenbergen. They were not allowed back into the house immediately. The fire brigade investigated whether there was a risk of collapse. “I feel very sorry for those people. They had New Year’s Eve plans with family and acquaintances at their home. That cannot continue now.”
