Adam Dalgliesh returns to the screen in the new episodes of the third season of the police series. He is a writer by PD James created by a commissar and a poet.
Phyllis Dorothy James White died ten years ago at the age of 94. At that time in the Daily Mail we went through his phases, in which there was enough gloom. A writer friend AN Wilson told in his article about the difficult life of PD James, whom he called Phyllis, which he believed served as a boost to the crime writer’s career and Dagliesh’s character.
Phyllis was afraid of her tyrannical father. The parents hated each other. When Phyllis’s mother had a nervous breakdown, her father committed her to a psychiatric hospital. The father took the daughter to greet her mother every week. The mother begged to go home, but each time she was taken back to her padded cell, Wilson writes.
Despite the painful events, the teenage Phyllis did not show her emotions, but blocked them out and behaved reservedly. According to Wilson, he never became a hugger and didn’t believe in therapy. He was a product of his upbringing and his era.
Phyllis had to leave school at the age of 16. She had to run the house and take care of her younger siblings.

At the age of 21, Phyllis married a medical student by Connor White with. However, after three happy years of marriage, Connor was caught up in the war, from which he returned home a broken man. Due to mental health problems, he was never able to work again. Phyllis visited her husband at an already familiar address: a psychiatric hospital. The marriage lasted 23 years until Connor’s death.
