Hanging on the trapeze, fire dancing or magic tricks. The winter circus in Meppel is in full swing again. But there is a little twist. It’s not in a big traditional red and white circus tent. No, it’s in church.
A church, right in the center. A church that was built in 1423. And a church that has had a new owner since last year, a funeral director. Since then, more events have been held. So now, a circus.
“We have found experts willing to look at building construction using 400-year-old beams. The trapeze can therefore be used in a normal circus tent, but also on 400-year-old beams,” says Vincent van Leth. He is the initiator behind the winter circus in Meppel, which is now in its third year.
