In the last month, Pepe (Pepe the King Prawn), known from the Muppets, has gone viral on social media.
Pepe made his debut in the Muppets back in 1996. The character has never been as well-known as fellow Muppets Kermit and Miss Piggy, but this year Pepe’s popularity rose to a whole new level.
The breakthrough happened in Tiktok at the end of November, when a Tiktok user published several updates with a picture of Pepe. In one release, Madonna is playing in the background Like a Prayer – as a choral version. The version in question was played earlier this year Deadpool&Wolverine in the movie.
The post went viral and soon more and more Tiktok users were posting with Pepe and Like a Prayer music. In the publications, tiktok users talk about their experiences related to diseases or embarrassing situations, for example, when their expression has been Pepe.
