Singer Pepe Willberg dropped out The song of my life – program in 2021 after the third production season. On Boxing Day, he returns to the program, but not on stage but on the couch to reveal his own life song.
Willberg admits to Iltalehti that the decision to leave the program was made little by little. The program is performed live, and anything can always happen in a live performance. Over the seasons, however, Willberg’s performances never went wrong — and the song never ended prematurely.
– Miraculously, it wasn’t interrupted, he says on the phone about the program’s performances.
Willberg reveals that it may not be noticed if the words get mixed up.
– It’s a routine and for some it’s a skill, he clarifies.
However, spectators could tell when Pepe had to bring down Tom Jones Sexbomb-song, in Jones’s style, the jacket smoothly falls to the floor by straightening the arms. It was different when the jacket caught the other hand. Even then, the problems didn’t stop the singing, even though the microphone fell out.
– Everything happens in a fraction of a second. I don’t remember anything about it. Apparently I started singing at some point when I had to, Willberg laughs.
In general, Willberg doesn’t think about the lyrics or the song when he sings. But the process can be confused for a split second if you see a familiar face in the audience.
– It might cause such a sprain. The texts come by themselves, you can’t think about them, he reflects.
My life in song the artist cannot choose the songs to be performed. Willberg strongly feels that if he falls in love with a song, the text will go into “some boxes” after a couple of listens.
– It has elements that move you from a deeper level.
It is different if the song is not to your taste. It won’t be remembered in the same way.
– Learning is more difficult, especially if you don’t like that song at all, he admits.
You can always learn the text by heart, but there is no time to think about the text in a live version. Willberg mentions that then the prompter is useful.
Pepe reveals that during the gigs of the Pepe & Paradise group, they usually performed the legendary I got everything from life – song. That song came straight from the spinal cord.
– During that time, I was able to calculate in my head how much each person will get from the gig, Willberg reveals with a laugh.
Willberg admits, however, that such a thing is only possible during the last song, when he knows that he is about to start piling up some stuff.
