Rammstein have released a documentary entitled “Rammstein – Behind The Scenes of the World Stadium Tour 2019-2024” that contains highlights of their last concert tours. The Berlin band looks back on 135 gigs in five years (interrupted by the corona pandemic) and over six million concertgoers.

Each performance was a spectacle supported by a huge, unique stage and unparalleled live production.

Although the documentary is woefully short at 47 minutes, it takes a look behind the scenes and accompanies the Rammstein crew as they prepare for the concerts. You can see how complex it was to coordinate the many moving parts of the stage, to have sound and image under control and to manage the complex backstage logistics including catering for hundreds of people.

So it’s less a film about Rammstein on stage and more an appreciation of the work of all the technicians and music people who work for the group. A monument to the process of implementing one of the most strenuous live metal projects of recent years.

A statement about the documentary says: “From 2019 to 2024, a video team accompanied the production, focusing on the impressive achievements of the crew and their various trades. The footage offers an authentic and impressive look behind the scenes of the production: from the elaborate stage construction and lighting design to pyrotechnics, logistics and countless other tasks. It demonstrates the expertise, tireless commitment, close collaboration and sense of responsibility of an exceptional crew – qualities that are essential to creating a show of this magnitude.”

What the film, unsurprisingly, does not do is recapitulate the allegations against Till Lindemann and some band members. This is just about how Rammstein were able to become the stage monster that they are with the last world tour at the latest.
